Mining Product Design
The shakedown mat was developed to help absorb vibrations to reduce the risks of workplace injury. The mats are used in large mining machines such as the Sandvik 421 carrier, and can be cut and shaped to suit many other carrier types.
Project vision and approach
With a concept in mind, our client came to us to refine their design, and worked with us through-out the design process. With safety as a guiding principle, the team prototyped and analysed a reduction of 21% of vibrations thanks to the mats multi-layer design optimised to prevent vibrations and slipping hazards.
The top layer of the design was created to increase drainage of water and oil while also improving boot grip. Made from hard materials, the mats are designed to withstand harsh circumstances ensuring our designed mats are suitable for the long haul.
As a fully capable, vertically integrated design hub Idea to Life was able to assist the client with design, prototyping, tooling and manufacturing of the created product based on their original idea.
Shakedown Mats help to reduce injury on the mine site by reducing vibrations and providing an Ergonomical surface to prevent slipping.
Idea to Life worked closely with the client to rapidly iterate concepts and designs using additive manufacturing, before designing tooling and producing the final parts.
Idea to Life delivered a safe and durable product suitable for a variety of mining vehicles capable of reducing workplace injuries.
